No One Cares, Just Do It by Tom Pearsall
It's true to say without surfing I wouldn't be a photographer. The dynamic environment and the unpredictable nature of the ocean have had me in awe since I can remember. Over the years that fascination has developed into an absolute obsession. After witnessing years worth of jaw-dropping moments in the surf, with my eyes as the camera, it was a natural progression to try to capture that 1/1000th of a second and share it with those poor souls who habit the land.
3 years ago I made three decisive life decisions; I brought my first camera, began training with world class waterman, Joe Knight (http://oneoceaninternational. org) and travelling with underground surfer and surf explorer, Luke Saranah. In a sport saturated with imagery I decided water photography was going to be my way of expressing and sharing my love for the ocean. With the help of the characters aforementioned I have now had experiences I never dreamed possible. This selection of images (all shot swimming in the soup) is a culmination of training and adventure. My favourite angle is from directly in front of the breaking wave, it means you take many a beating but when it pays off it gives me a satisfaction unlike anything on this Earth (and I definitely haven't nailed it yet!).
