North Shore by Tom Brune

After working up in the Pilbara for the past few months with no days below 40°C, I was frothing to get back to Hawaii for my second winter in a row. The waves pumped the couple weeks I was there. It's always super surreal being on the North Shore in winter, all of the big wigs are in town and it's hard to not get star struck at times. Hitchhiking home and getting picked up by Ian Crane, riding my bike past Jack Johnson, ordering an acai bowl behind Italo after a heat win and obviously the stacked lineup of pro photographers and surfers out at Pipe. I had to fly home the day before finals day, but it was cool to see Italo win. Every time I was in the water at Pipe or Backdoor: no matter if it was two foot or maxing out, he was out there pushing himself on every wave.
