The Little Things by Tahlea Smith
I first discovered photography when I was around eleven years old. My cousins were really into it, and we did a lot of practise portrait “shoots” of each other in the backyard. I remember being so amazed that photography was an actual thing, that you could take photos and it could actually be considered as work. I just thought it was fun. And that was it. I knew that was what I wanted to do.

I’m a bit of an introvert, which I think led to me really appreciating the quiet moments in life. I’m a big fan of finding beauty in the little things, the things we might not take the time to notice as much, and I think this is what I try to capture in my photos the most. My favourite photographs are the ones of my loved ones when they’re at their most comfortable, when they’re drinking their morning coffee or playing in the ocean or practising a hobby they love. Those photos are always the best to look back at later, and usually when someone’s real personality shines through.

I feel like the state of the world at the moment has also helped encourage appreciation for the simple things we might take for granted. There’s a lot going on right now, and the photos below (all shot by me on 35mm film) have helped take me back to a time that was a bit more calm, a little less chaotic. I hope they can do the same for you. Enjoy.
