That Great Ocean Road by Ben Nathan

There is something about the Great Ocean Road in Victoria. The raw beauty of this stretch of coastline is something that I have never seen before. It encompasses all things surf culture, from world famous surf breaks to farmers markets, this is my favourite part of where I live.

I tend to spend a lot of my time surfing the famous Bells Beach and Winkipop reefs. Every time I surf there I feel spiritually connected with the cliffs and the land of the Wadda Warrung people. It’s really significant, you actually feel it. If I sit down on a nice calm day, you kind of feel presence and a hand on your shoulder. It is extremely comforting and you can sense the ancestors had their hand prints on the land. It turns back time for you and makes you really connect.

Other than feeling spiritually connected to the ancestors of the Wadda Warrung people who rightfully call this place home, I am proud to be able to showcase my favourite stretch of coastline to you all.

For those of you that have never visited, visit. Make sure you support the local economy and respect everyone. Torquay is an extremely inviting surf town with ample cafes and restaurants that neighbour world class surf breaks - what more could you want?
