Up North by Jack Bober
My name is Jack Bober and I am a 16-year-old photographer from San Francisco, California. I am a full-time student, but on the days when the waves are perfect, I will stay at the beach from sun up to sundown. The reason for this is that up here in SF, there are very few days when the waves get truly "perfect", but when it's good it really is special. The water up here never gets above 55 degrees and there definitely is the looming presence of sharks, but that can be looked at as a good thing in my mind because it generally keeps the crowds lower. The surfers that do try are pretty crazy, in that these waves are not small. They can get up to 20 feet and the paddle out can take over 40 minutes on the biggest days. Only a select few can make it out these days, but when they do it is special. It is something else seeing how hard they worked to make it out, then catch these 20ft bombs and ride them like it was just another wave. It makes my job real easy, and that is what makes it so enjoyable. Being able to capture these people catching these waves and then showing them the shots and seeing how happy they are. These pictures were all taken this winter around Northern California, I hope you enjoy them!
