Seamus Byrne
Seamus Byrne - from the Northern Beaches of Sydney has been a regular contributor to SV. It's been just over a year since his last feature, and since then his style has developed immensely.  Seamus has since finished his final year of school, held his own exhibition, started uni and has been shooting for quite a few brands and companies. He is currently trying heaps of new things including photojournalism, portraits, lifestyle etc. but they're currently projects in the works.

Hey Seamus! Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us. To kick things off, where abouts are you from and when did you pick up your first camera?
No worries man, happy to be here! I'm from the Northern Beaches of Sydney in Australia, such a beautiful place to live - I first picked up a camera in 2016 when I was 15 or so.

Whoa how’s this for crazy. Your last online feature with us was the 25th March 2019. Exactly one year ago to the date. Insane haha. How has your photography evolved and developed since then?
Woah, pretty crazy to think it was that long ago but time moves fast hey! Since last year so much has happened, I had just finished my final year of school, had an exhibition, started uni, shot for quite a few brands and companies and heaps more of crazy opportunities. As for my photography style, I think I have maybe begun to branch out more in my subject matter - I'm currently just trying heaps of new things (photojournalism, portraits, lifestyle etc.) but they're currently projects in the works.

Favourite wave in the world?
Ahh I haven't travelled to too many waves in my 18 years but I would probably choose local break that I love which is the Barrenjoey in North Palm Beach.

What are you shooting with at the moment?
Well since the Corona Virus has struck I have come down with a bit of a creative block - but I have a couple of projects in the works. I've been thinking about possibly doing one tied to the social impacts of the virus itself. But only time will tell what I get up to while I am stuck at home.

What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not behind the lens?
I love to surf heaps, watch movies and hang out with my friends.

Who do you get influenced by?
I have recently been loving the work of Todd Hido, Max Zappas, Chris Grundy and Willem Verbeck.

Do you have a favourite image you’ve ever captured
I keep coming back to this one image I had taken in mid-2019 of Palm Beach. With only 2 people out and a small clean wave, I think it captures what surfing is for me personally - catching a couple of fun waves, taking in your surroundings of the beautiful landscape and enjoying it with some friends.

Plans for 2020?
Well although 2020 is looking pretty grim so far with the whole pandemic, I plan to do some uni work, surf heaps and do some projects in the meantime.

Cheers brother!
Thanks for having me mate!
