New Year, New Challenges by Jackson Onfray
I grew up on the Sunshine Coast, surfing, spending most of my time at the beach with my father from an early age. Having a deep appreciation for the natural world grew from my time spent in some of the most beautiful beaches and national parks in the world.
My photography journey didn’t start in the water; despite all of my hobbies revolving around the beach I had moved to Brisbane to study film. My commercial work started in the food & beverage industry where I began creating for venues and producers in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast area. I had a full time job as a venue manager so my free time was few and far between.
My surf photography career started when a few stars aligned at the beginning of 2020. I had decided to take the leap into full time freelance photography. I purchased a water housing and with the luck of the tides bringing in two cyclone swells in 2020 I began to capture in the water.
With my new website www.jacksononfray.com just launched, I now aim to take my skills to the beaches abroad, having trips in Japan and Sri Lanka booked for this year. With the global lockdown potentially ending my maiden surf trip in June, I plan to continue improving myself and building on a network of some of the best surfers in the world, right in my backyard.
